McARTHUR, Ohio (WOUB) – As conference play begins in the TVC-Ohio, Vinton County looked to turn their fortunes around after a lackluster start to the season. Facing Nelsonville-York in a rematch of a 68-14 blowout earlier in the season, the Vikings had revenge on their mind. However, this was not the case, as the Buckeyes picked up another win.

Vinton County senior Lindsey Riddle was on fire all game, as she went 5-7 from deep and tallied 19 points all together. Speaking with head coach Brett Jones after the game, he said Riddle came in with confidence and didn’t need to be talked to all game. She was locked in.

Vinton County came in with a plan early in the game, and that was to fire at all cylinders. In the first half, the Vikings shot the lights out of the gym, knocking down five threes with four of those coming from Riddle. The Vikings led 25-23 at the half, outscoring their point total from their last meeting with the Buckeyes by 11.

Whatever the locker room talk was at halftime, it absolutely worked. Nelsonville-York worked on their presence in the paint and converted on fast breaks often.

Nelsonville-York got to the line often, attempting 29 free throws. Vinton County’s foul trouble ultimately cost them the game, as Nelsonville-York went 24-29 from the stripe throughout the game. NY was up 54-47 with a minute to go, but Vinton County cut it to 55-53 with 30 seconds left. The Buckeyes continued their success at the line and closed the game with a 59-53 win.
