Albany, Ohio (WOUB)- After winning their first game of the season last week against Vinton County, Alexander took to the court to face off against the Athens Lady Bulldogs.

The first quarter started off slow for both teams. The Lady Spartans struggled to hit shots as they only made one bucket supported by a free throw split. Athens woke up toward the end of the quarter and erupted on offense, jumping out to a 14-3 lead to end the quarter.

The Spartans played their best offense of the night in the second quarter, scoring nine points. Kaylee Hudnall lead the charge for Alexander this quarter, nailing the only three pointer for Alexander in the game. However, the Lady Bulldogs offense continued to keep them up, leading 26-12 at the end of the second quarter.

The third quarter was all Athens, as their offense had an amazing quarter. This was due to the Lady Bulldogs securing offensive rebounds and kicking out to wide open sharpshooters who would knock down barrages of threes. The Spartans offense also fell flat, scoring only four points. Alexander would find themselves down 45-16 at the end of the third.

Unfortunately for Alexander, the point deficit only grew as Athens dominated in the fourth by continuing their second half offensive gameplan. Despite the large point difference, the Spartans had positives on both sides of the floor. Mckenna Moore had a great quarter on defense, racking up physical rebounds. However, Athens took care of business and won 56-23.

The Bulldogs ran both sides of the floor throughout the game. Alexander gave up the ball nine times to an explosive Athens offense, who made them pay by scoring uncontested three point shots.  The Spartans struggled to defend the perimeter, allowing eight Athens three pointers.

Alexander will look to finish the regular season with a win against River Valley in Bidwell on Thursday this week. Athens will look to end the season strong against Vinton County on Thursday.
