Not only did the Lancers clinch the title, they continued to push their win streak to an impressive 17 games.
If you could describe this game in one word, it would be physical. Both teams came into this matchup ready to put their all on the floor, and it was obvious the crowd was just as excited about the game.
“We like those physical games,” Coach Thompson said, “The kids like it, they kind of thrive off of it but in a day…we got it done.”
Both teams had each other’s number during the first quarter, as Waterford only put four points on the board. Even though the scoring slump for both teams headed into the second quarter, it didn’t stay for the Lancers, as they put up 23 points in the second quarter alone.
Not only did the scoring come alive for Federal Hocking in this quarter, but the rebounding game came alive for them as well. Key guys like Scotty Balch and Iden Miller dominated the glass in this ballgame. Balch finished with 9 and Miller finished with 8.
Coming out of the halftime break is where the Lancers really started to pull away from the Wildcats. Three pointers and a continued pressure on the glass allowed Federal Hocking to do this. At the end of the third, the Lancers had pulled away to a 57-32 lead heading into the last quarter of play.
The story for the remainder of this ballgame was the same as the first three quarters of play, high tempo, physical basketball. The success from this game is exciting for the team’s season moving forward.
“It means a lot for us” Thompson explains, “This was one of our preseason goals that we talked about that we wanted to accomplish. We honestly got it a lot sooner than what I was expecting to, a testament to how the boys handle themselves, the way they play, they work both in games and in practice, I’m very proud of our team.”
Federal Hocking continued to dominate the rest of the quarter, and take the win back to Stewart. The Lancers host the Trimble Tomcats on Friday night under the lights for senior night.
