The Plains, Ohio (WOUB) – The Bulldogs had the chance to establish themselves as a true contender in the TVC-Ohio title race against the division-leading Vikings on Tuesday night, but ultimately fell, 58-48.

The first quarter was as back and forth as it gets, with both teams hitting three pointer after three pointer. Vinton County’s Cobra Sharp had the ball movement on point with four assists in just the first quarter. The Vikings led after one, 15-11.

The second quarter saw Athens get a little more involved, as Landon Wheatley got it going on the scoring end. He had a rough night shooting the ball at 7-23, but provided a spark heading into the half only down one, 24-23.

The third quarter was a back and forth, defensive affair. Neither team blinked and forced lots of turnovers on both sides, ending the quarter at 34-33, Vinton County leading.

Fourth quarter, enter Garrett Brown. Brown had an absolute monster game and closed this one out in the fourth. His final line was 25 points, 7-10 FG, 3-5 3PT, 8-10 FT, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Vinton County has often had a next-man-up mentality this season, and Brown was the guy to step up.

The Vikings retain control of the TVC-Ohio, with just three conference games remaining and a one game lead over Nelsonville-York and Alexander.
