Pomeroy, Ohio (WOUB) – The Alexander Spartans traveled to Pomeroy to take on the Meigs Marauders in what quietly turned into a highly contested contest. Fresh off cracking 2,000 career points, Kyler D’Augustino was able to lead his guys through a very hostile environment that saw the Spartans come out on top 55-49.

The Spartans got out the gates extremely fast, getting up and down the court like it was nothing. D’Augustino capitalized on several Meigs’ turnovers early, slamming home 3 dunks in the first quarter alone. He had 8 at the end of the first leading the Spartans take an early 4-point advantage, 15-11.

The Marauders were able to keep pace well throughout the first quarter and a half. At one point, they led by a point at 23-22 with under 3 minutes to go. This didn’t last long, though. Kyler himself put 9 points on the board in the final 3 minutes, bringing his total to 19 while taking a 33-24 lead into the half.

The third quarter was much of the same in terms of which side dominated, with Alexander adding to their already strong lead. They outscored the Marauders 13-8, taking a 14-point lead into the 4th, but then things got interesting.

Opening up the 4th quarter, sophomore Mason Morris drained a 3 from the corner, extending the Spartans lead to 17. However, a switch seemed to flip at this time in the Meigs’ huddle. They proceeded to go on a 15-3 scoring run fueled by Dustin Vance and Cayden Gheen, and coming down the stretch found themselves down just 5 points, 52-47. The rally was put to a halt once Meigs was forced to start fouling, and Kyler was able to ice the game at the line, ending his night with 30 points.
