Nelsonville-York Buckeyes take down Wellston in first playoff matchup

Nelsonville, Ohio (WOUB) –The Nelsonville-York Boys Buckeyes took on the Wellston Golden Rockets at home to play their first playoff game.

In the first quarter, Nelsonville-York’s came out on top, scoring 24 points while Wellston only had 6. These boys came out ready to have an amazing night and make it to the sectional finals.

To begin the second quarter the Golden Rockets took advantage of sloppy possessions cutting into the Buckeye lead and putting up 15 points in the quarter. At the half, the Buckeyes were still in the lead with a score of 38-21. They had an impressive 13 assists in these first two quarters.

Finishing out the third quarter, Nelsonville-Yorks was beating Wellston with the score of 55-21. The Buckeyes defense this quarter was spectacular and they didn’t let the Golden Rockets score a single point, while they scored 17 points.

In the final quarter, the Buckeyes took out their starters and were still able to hold the Golden Rockets to 7 points and come out on top 62-28.

Nelsonville-York saw a great team win with James Koska having 2 assists and 4 rebounds, Trenton Morrissey scoring 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, Keagon Swope with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists, AndrewConner with 8 points 4 rebounds 2 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, and Leighton Loge was the top scorer with 15 points in total.

The Buckeyes will travel to Proctorville this Saturday to take on the 7-seeded Fairland Dragons in a sectional final matchup.
