“Chi-Town Callin’: Next Generation(s)”

“The much-revered Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) will be 68 years old this year. In the six decades of its existence the AACM not only established itself as a viable Chicago community force, it developed a generation of influential music creators, while also providing the rubrics for a number of community-based arts projects during the 60s/70s/80s, whose impact is evinced by the number of musician led enterprises that successfully emulated its tenets: the Black Artist Group, of St. Louis; the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, and the Creative Arts Collective of Detroit are prime examples.

Saturday’s “Excursions” will focus on the two subsequent generations of artists who maintain the continuity and vision of the AACM. In addition, the program will focus on Chicago’s non-AACM improvising artists who also are pushing the boundaries of improvised music through a commingling of approaches.

That’s Excursions, March 25, Sat. night 6-9:00 p.m. (EDT).
