Here are all the Pride events happening this weekend in Athens
< < Back to here-are-all-the-pride-events-happening-this-weekend-in-athensATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — From Thursday to Sunday, the Athens community celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride. The Southeastern Ohio Rainbow Alliance and some local businesses and other local organizations they’ve partnered with, have a jam-packed schedule of events to commemorate Pride Month.
The festivities kick off Thursday at Athens Uncorked with Pride trivia night at 7 p.m. Patrons can expect fun pride-themed specialty drinks and prizes for the trivia winners.
Friday evening, Athens Uncorked will also be hosting Pride happy hour. There, a free slice of rainbow cake will be available with the purchase of a specialty drink. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and the festivities continue with two other events: The Pigskin Bar and Grille is hosting the Pride Shuffle at 7 p.m., and at 9 p.m., The Union is hosting the Pride dance party. For the dance party, tickets for those under 21 are $7 and tickets for those 21 and up are $5.
Saturday morning, the annual Pride parade starts at 10. The route begins in front of Alden Library, goes up Court Street, turns right down Washington Street, then right down College Street, ending on College Green.
That evening, Eclipse Company Store in The Plains is hosting a drag show at 8. Tickets are $10 and doors open at 7 p.m. The show is expected to run until 11 p.m.
Sunday, you can expect a history lesson and a walk in the fresh air with Appalachian Pride Heritage Walking Tour, which begins at 11 a.m. outside United Campus Ministry and is hosted by Appalachian Understories. Mickey J. Hart will lead the tour around uptown Athens and explore the history of the LGBTQ+ community in southeast Ohio.
Once the walk is over, the whole family can enjoy Pride Family Field Day at Richland Avenue Park from noon until 2 p.m. The event will have vendors, bouncy houses and obstacle courses.
Then, at 8 p.m., the Athens Community Pool will have a Pride pool party until 10.
