Tucker Rule talks with WOUB in advance of L.S. Dunes show in Cincinnati
< < Back to tucker-rule-talks-with-woub-in-advance-of-l-s-dunes-show-in-cincinnatiCINCINNATI, Ohio (WOUB) – L.S. Dunes is a post-punk/hardcore supergroup that came together during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Members include Anthony Green (Circa Survive, Saosin and The Sound of Animals Fighting), Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance), Travis Stever (Coheed and Cambria), Tim Payne, and Tucker Rule (Thursday).
The band released their first full-length, “Past Lives,” last year. Last month they unveiled a new single, “Benadryl Subreddit.”
The band plays Bogarts (2621 Vine St.) Friday, July 21. WOUB’s Nicholas Kobe conducted a brief Q&A with Tucker Rule in advance of the performance, which you can find below.
Nicholas Kobe:
What is L.S. Dunes and/or how did you come up with the band name?
Tucker Rule:
L.S. Dunes a band of non related Brothers who are passionate about writing songs. The name was beamed down via spaceship.
Nicholas Kobe:
How has touring as L.S. Dunes surprised you?
Tucker Rule:
I think we are all shocked on how passionate the Lost Souls are and how loud they like to sing our songs back to us. These songs are for the them and we are just the vehicle.
Nicholas Kobe:
How has writing for L.S. Dunes been different from your other projects and how do you differentiate Dunes from those projects mentally?
Tucker Rule:
We never had a conversation on what the band should sound like. Every idea brought to the table is given a shot musically. Past Lives was written during a pandemic with each of us isolated in our own home studios. Ninety percent of the record was written without any of us stepping foot in the same room together. There’s such a freedom to be able to explore all ideas… I think this next record will be a whole different experience for the band and the listener as we craft this collection of songs together… in person.
Nicholas Kobe:
What’s something you’re particularly proud about on Past Lives?
Tucker Rule:
Our industry was dead during the pandemic. Musicians had no way to make money. Personally I was told I should quit music all together and go get a “real” job…. So I (we) did what we’ve done our whole lives… we said ‘F*ck you’ and started another band because music is all we know. Writing songs fills our cups.
Nicholas Kobe:
What is next for L.S Dunes? What’s next for you personally?
Tucker Rule:
Dunes and Thursday have a bunch of touring coming up. I’m very lucky to have both bands and be surrounded by people that absolutely inspire me and make me a better player. I plan on doing a lot of remote recording from my home studio when I’m not on the road. Other than that, I’m just going to hang with my family.
