The Eagles offensive line was dominant all night. They were able to move the line of scrimmage and create holes for running backs Rylee Barrett and Gavin Smith. The dynamic duo picked up right where they left off after combining for three touchdowns in week one.
Against Rosecrans, the two combined to score touchdowns on back-to-back drives to open the night, taking a quick 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Barrett would later score his fourth touchdown of the young season with a short rush in the second quarter.
Eastern Head Coach Jason Jackson has been itching to open up the Eastern offense to unleash his new quarterback, Ethan Edwards. He did just that in the second quarter.
Edwards threw for two touchdowns in the frame, the first came on a connection to Cooper Barnett to cap off the opening drive of the quarter. The second came on a pass to Gavan Murphy with just over a minute to play in the half.
The Eagle’s defense was equally as dominant. In the absence of star linebacker Brandon Oldaker, they suffocated the Bishops attack all night long, refusing to concede a single point in the first half, and only giving up seven points by the final whistle.
In the second half, the Eagles never let their foot off of the gas. They scored six more points in the half to cap off a 40-7 victory.
Eastern will look to remain undefeated travel to South Gallia to take on the Rebels.
