WOUB Learning Lab and the Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery are excited to announce their partnership once again for the 5th Annual Hour of Code event, CODE FEST 23. This event aims to bring engaging coding opportunities to the local community, catering to coders of all ages and skill levels.
This year’s event will offer a diverse array of coding activities that participants can enjoy. Attendees can explore various coding stations, each featuring different activities, including robotics.
One exciting addition to this year’s event is the inclusion of workshops specifically tailored for coders who want to delve deeper into specific coding topics such as microbits. The schedule for these workshops will be posted as soon as they are finalized.

SHORT DOCS
Small Documentaries. Big Stories.
Frontline has been working hard to develop an antidote to the misinformation that abounds on social media with a new streaming series called Frontline Short Docs. Made especially for teens and young adults, each five-to 10-minute episode is in-depth, yet digestible, stimulating curiosity and tackling the difficult/important issues shaping our world in an age-appropriate way. While the series is for teens/young adults, it certainly will appeal to adults of all ages. Each episode will be available on YouTube, the PBS App and PBS Learning Media.

The Great Thanksgiving Listen

This year, as StoryCorps celebrates 20 years of the stories that matter, they have a number of opportunities to engage listeners in the work. The act of listening has never been more important. That’s why, StoryCorps is calling individuals to participate in the annual Great Thanksgiving Listen — an initiative that invites people nationwide to honor someone in their lives by recording their story for future generations.
Participants can record an interview with someone in the same room using the free StoryCorps App or record with someone in a different location using the remote recording platform, StoryCorps Connect.

World Kindness Day
November 13th
One thing caregivers can do to promote kindness is help children learn skills to be a better friend. It turns out kindness is contagious AND results in greater happiness and more friendships. The article, How to Teach your Kids to be Includers, on the PBS KIDS for Parents website outlines steps caregivers can follow to instill prosocial skills that help spread kindness and compassion that we could all use more of.

Arthur Podcast Season 3
Listen-in as the world-famous aardvark goes on some of his favorite adventures, featuring D.W., Buster, and all their friends from Elwood City. Each episode is an audio adaptation of a story from the series with some new commentary from Arthur himself, in addition to Arthur’s Inbox, a question-and-answer portion that includes responses from listeners everywhere.
