REEDSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB)– Federal Hocking’s commanding second half led to a 63-34 victory over Eastern.

The Federal Hocking Lady Lancers came into Thursday’s game holding a 3-1 record on the season. Following a win over Alexander, the Lancers were looking for their first conference win in TVC-Hocking play. The Eastern Lady Eagles held an 0-5 record on the season thus far, following a loss to Nelsonville-York on Monday.

The first quarter was all Federal Hocking. The Lancers only allowed eight points defensively and forced multiple turnovers. Eastern forced Federal Hocking to settle for deep shots outside and protected the paint early on.

The second quarter told a completely different story. The Eagles outscored the Lancers 16-13 in the second quarter, including a 7-0 run to begin the new period. Makenzie Robertson led a 5-0 charge at the end of the half with one of her three triples of the night and helped keep the Lancers lead to only five points heading into the break.

The third quarter is when the Lancer’s takeover began. Jaylee Orsborne and Brenlee Cottrill combined for nine of the Lancer’s 14 points in the quarter and helped Federal Hocking outscore Eastern 14-4 in the quarter. The Eagles shot 2-8 from the free throw line in the period, hurting their chances to mount a comeback.

With a comfortable 15-point lead, the Lancers kept their foot on the gas in the final period. Orsborne had half of Federal Hocking’s points in the final quarter, propelling the Lancers to victory.

Federal Hocking made multiple changes at halftime, one included scoring in the paint.

“I mean honestly, we told them to quit shooting outside until we can score and penetrate inside,” Amos Cottrill said.

Jaylee Orsborne led all of Federal Hocking’s scorers with 17 points, with 15 of those coming in the second half. In the second quarter, Amos Cottrill told Orsborne to have a “score-first” mentality.

“I’ve been getting yelled at for passing the ball a lot and not getting to the rim so they kind of want me to get to the rim and score first,” Orsborne said.

Brenlee Cottrill followed Orsborne with 15 points, McKayla Nelson with 11 and Takira Walker with nine.

The Eagles were led by Makenzie Robertson with 11, and Sydney Mora with nine.

Federal Hocking improves to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. They will travel to Morgan on Monday to take on the Raiders.

Eastern falls to 0-6 on the season, and 0-2 in conference play. They will stay at the nest and host Ritchie Valley on Wednesday.
