TVC-Ohio Boys Standings

1. Vinton County Vikings | 12-3 (Conf. 8-0)

With both Vikings games last week being postponed, this week was going to be interesting to see how a very well-rested squad would attack a three-game week. Vinton County blew out River Valley 80-45 Tuesday night and followed that up with a 69-48 win against Athens on Friday night. Saturday presented one of the Vikings’ largest challenges of the season, though, as they hosted the 2023 TVC-Hocking champion Federal Hocking Lancers, whom they fell to 68-62.

While Vinton County still sits atop the TVC-Ohio undefeated, this season could go south quickly with just how tough its upcoming schedule is. The Vikings have conference games on tap this week at Alexander and at home against Nelsonville-York, but next Saturday’s game against Marietta marks the first of a four-game stretch where Vinton County will have to face top 10 ranked opponents in the Ohio Division II Southeast District. While the conference title is the goal for Vinton County, this upcoming stretch should tell us a lot about who this team is come playoff time. — Grant Kiefer

2. Meigs Marauders | 13-2 (Conf. 7-1)

The Meigs Boys had an action-packed week, beginning with an in-conference game and a trip to Athens on Tuesday. Cayden Gheen dominated the hardwood, and helped his team come out with the 59-46 win. On Thursday, they hosted the Nelsonville York Buckeyes in Pomeroy; an intense matchup that turned heads around the TVC. The Marauders came out victorious, topping the Buckeyes 58-51 in an offensive shootout. To wrap up the week, Meigs played Trimble on Saturday night and won 61-47.

This week, the boys will spend some time on the road, with Wellston on Tuesday and Marietta on Friday. — Lucy Schaefer

3. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 10-7  (Conf. 3-4)

The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes had two games last week against Federal Hocking and Meigs. They dropped a home game against Federal Hocking in a tight 72-65 contest. The Buckeyes then visited the Marauders who are in second place in the TVC-Ohio. They then fell against Meigs, 58-51.

These two losses put the boys at a three-game losing streak, losing all three of these games by single digits. As the final few conference games approach, Nelsonville-York is looking to make a push to solidify second or third place in the TVC-Ohio. The Buckeyes will invite River Valley into town on Tuesday, and travel to Vinton County on Friday to take on the first place Vikings. — Donovan Varney

T-4. River Valley Raiders | 5-11 (Conf. 3-5)

River Valley split a pair of TVC-Ohio games this week with a loss on the road to Vinton County and a home win over Alexander.

When the Raiders faced off with the Vikings, they could never get it going and Vinton County dominated with a 80-45. Friday, the boys escaped with a narrow win 51-50.

T-4. Athens Bulldogs | 3-13 (Conf. 3-4)

The Athens boys had another challenging week ahead of them with two tough TVC-Ohio opponents. On Tuesday, they picked up a tough loss against the Meigs Marauders on their home court, falling 59-46. Later in the week, they traveled to McArthur to take on the Vinton County Vikings, who sit atop the TVC-Ohio standings. They were unable to compete against the firepower of the Vikings and added another tough loss to their record 69-48.

With these losses, Athens continues an unfortunate six-game losing streak, but can look to bounce back at Wellston on Monday. Zachary Knight

Wellston Golden Rockets logoT-5. Wellston Golden Rockets | 2-9 (Conf. 2-4)

Wellston began the week with their first game in a week on the road in Albany. The Golden Rockets defeated Alexander 59-57 snapping a five-game losing streak. A few days later, Wellston was outperformed by Miller in a 71-48 road loss.

This week Wellston will play two sets of back-to-backs. The Golden Rockets will host Athens and Meigs on Monday and Tuesday, then travel to River Valley and Symmes Valley on Friday and Saturday.  — Andrew Bowlby

7. Alexander Spartans | 0-16 (Conf. 0-8)

The Spartans continue to struggle in the TVC-Ohio with two close losses this week. The first loss was to Wellston on Tuesday with a final score of 59-57. This game was back and forth throughout and Klaxton Hawk ended the game with a double-double. The second game was a heartbreaker against River Valley that ended 51-50.

Although moving on winless, Alexander will face Vinton County, Athens, and Trimble this week.  Maddie Kiefer

TVC-Ohio Girls Standings

1. Athens Bulldogs | 14-4 (Conf. 7-1)

The Lady Bulldogs continued their reign over the TVC-Ohio this week, scooping up three big wins. They started the week off with a big rivalry game against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes. With the help of Asa Holcombe and Olivia Smart who combined for 40 points, the Bulldogs cruised past the Buckeyes moving on to their next matchup of the week against Logan Elm. They came out on top of that one as well with a final score of 67-53, and picked up their first of two out of conference wins this week. The second win came from a trip to Chillicothe, where Athens added another 43-36 win to their impressive record.

Next week, the Lady Bulldogs hit the road to Pomeroy to play against the Meigs Marauders on Monday and they’ll round out the week at home against the runner ups of the TVC-Ohio, the Alexander Spartans.  — Zachary Knight

2. Alexander Spartans | 11-5 (Conf. 6-2)

It was an extremely successful week for the Lady Spartans who came out with wins against Wellston, Vinton County, and Trimble. Alexander also had help moving up the standings after the then second place River Valley Raiders lost a conference game to Wellston. This raised the Spartans to second place in the TVC-Ohio

Alexander will take on Nelsonville-York, Athens, and Trimble this upcoming week, the biggest game being against the number one Athens Bulldogs. This game will either put Athens in the driver seat for the title or tie the two squads for first place.  Maddie Kiefer

3. River Valley Raiders | 14-4 (Conf. 6-3)

It was a difficult week for the River Valley girls, who were coming off the upset win over Athens.

They started by escaping Pomeroy with a 10-point win over the last place Meigs Marauders. River Valley then was upset by Wellston dropping their conference record to 6-3 causing them to fall to third in the TVC-Ohio.

4. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 9-9 (Conf. 5-4)

The Lady Buckeyes had a busy week facing Athens, Meigs and Jackson. They wouldn’t be able to hold on to a halftime lead against Athens, falling 46-67 despite Airah Lavy dropping 36 points. Nelsonville-York would then defeat Meigs 58-45 and fall to Jackson on Saturday.

Despite the two-loss week, Lavy etched her name into the Nelsonville-York record books as the school’s all-time leading scorer in Thursdays win against Meigs. As the final stretch of games approaches, the Lady Buckeyes are slated to lace up against Alexander and River Valley this week.  — Donovan Varney

5. Vinton County Vikings | 7-10 (Conf. 3-5)

The Lady Vikings’ 63-29 drubbing of Trimble on Monday night capped off a stretch where they won four of its last five games to inch back to .500 overall but could not get to that mark in conference play Thursday night in a defensive slugfest against Alexander, which they dropped 33-30. It’s been an outstanding rebound for Vinton County, who’s trying to get back to its winning ways from years prior.

Next week will be a very interesting one, as Vinton County will get another shot at a River Valley team Tuesday that was just upset by Wellston. That game was one where the Raiders struggled to generate any offense, so a stout defensive team like Vinton County could pose trouble for River Valley. The Lady Vikings will be back in action at home Thursday night as well, this one against Wellston who they took down on the road earlier this season.  Grant Kiefer

Wellston Golden Rockets logo6. Wellston Golden Rockets | 7-11 (Conf. 2-7)

Wellston dropped their Monday night game at Alexander by 13 points. That was their eighth loss in nine games. However, the Golden Rockets quickly avenged that loss on Thursday.

They earned arguably their best win of the season when River Valley came to town. Wellston pulled off the upset 45-36 and got just the second conference win of the year.

7. Meigs Marauders | 6-12 (Conf. 1-8)

Last week, the Marauders played two in-conference opponents at home and on the road. They began the week with River Valley at home on Monday. The girls put on their second annual Hoops for Heroes game to show appreciation for military service members. In an intense defensive battle, Meigs fell short, losing 62-52 to the Raiders. On Thursday, they looked for redemption at Nelsonville-York. Airah Lavy and her Buckeyes swept Meigs off their feet and would win 58-45.

This week, the Lady Marauders will host Athens on Monday and Marietta on Thursday. Lucy Schaefer
