In the first quarter, the Buckeyes took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Vinton County responded with a 14-5 run with 2:51 in the first quarter led by Garrett Brown’s three field goals and Ashton Allman’s three putback layups allowing Vinton County to lead the Buckeyes 16-14 to end the quarter.
The second quarter saw the Vikings catch fire led by Garrett Brown and Owen Hire who shot 4-4 from the field with four rebounds while Brown added 20 points and four rebounds. The Buckeyes stayed in the game forcing 12 turnovers and keeping the deficit within single digits at 39-30 Vinton County.
The third quarter like the second consisted of Vinton County still scoring at will but struggling to keep possession of the ball. The Vikings kept hitting from behind the arc and controlling the boards. Buckeyes Senior Keagan Swope was wreaking havoc on the Vikings’ offense nabbing six steals as the Buckeyes trailed 58-49 to finish the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Vinton County as they locked down the Buckeyes including an 8-2 run in the last 2:50 of the game. This was led by many forced turnovers especially with back-to-back steals by Junior Hayden Reynolds to put the Vikings lead up to double digits. The Vikings finished the game winning 77-63.
The Vinton County Vikings look to translate their success into another win. As they host the 16-2 Marietta Tigers on Saturday at 7:30 P.M.
