The 10-seeded Vinton County Vikings traveled across county lines to Jackson County to take on the 7-seeded Jackson Ironmen in their sectional semifinal matchup. In a very low scoring effort, the Ironmen pulled away in the second half, and won by a score of 48-28.

The first quarter moved at a snail’s pace and the Vikings couldn’t seem to get shots to fall. Bodhi Wolford banged in five points for Jackson in the opening period, and when the first stanza ended the Ironmen led 11-4.

The second quarter was pretty much more of the same for Vinton County. After implementing a full court trap defense, the Vikings were able to garner some success early on in the quarter, but Jackson adjusted to it and took a 20-11 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

Two incredible plays from center Ashton Allman helped narrow the lead to just five points with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, but Jackson ended the quarter on a 9-4 run, leading 29-19.

Jackson piled on the points in the final quarter. Boston Campbell made tough shot after tough shot and converted on many free throw attempts to extend the lead in the final period. This ultimately led to the Ironmen running away with this one, winning 48-28.

The Vikings shot 9/40 from the field, as well as only cashing in on two of their 18 free throw attempts. No single player registered double digit points for Vinton County.

The Ironmen were led by Campbell, who finished with 18 points and four rebounds, and Wolford, who finished with 14 points, four rebounds, and four steals.

Jackson will take on Warren in their sectional final matchup on Friday.
