Trimble wins double overtime thriller to advance to District Final

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – The Trimble Tomcats (15-8) faced off against the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans (16-7) in an intense match-up at the Convocation Center at Ohio University. The Tomcats struggled at first, finding themselves overwhelmed against Portsmouth Notre Dame’s offense. However, Trimble found their rhythm heading into the second half, leading to a double overtime win of 49-48. 

The Titans took the lead early in the first quarter, forcing several turnovers from the Tomcats. Trimble frequently found themselves without the ball, drowning against Portsmouth Notre Dame. The Titans took this opportunity to rack up some points and continued to steamroll the Tomcats by snagging their rebounds. The second quarter continued similarly, but Michael Clark was able to step up and help Trimble with two three-pointers. 

Both teams headed into the locker room with the score at 17-15, however, the Tomcats came into the second half ready to sink their claws into the Titans.  

Trimble pulled out all the stops on defense, only allowing Portsmouth Notre Dame to take an 8-point lead at most. Michael Clark kept it hot, giving the Tomcats the edge they needed by contributing 5 points.  

Both teams kicked it into high gear for the fourth quarter, neither wanting to give up a chance to win the district semi-finals. Brady Jajczyk and Luke Orsborne combined for 8 points, powering the Tomcats to overtime.   

Trimble lit up the hardwood, with the younger generation of Tomcats playing with grit and determination. Jajczyk and Orsborne struck fast and furiously to continue the Tomcats’ momentum through the end of the game. Trimble pulled out the win in this intense game with a final score of 49-48. 

While Portsmouth Notre Dame’s season came to an end, Trimble will continue in the tournament.
