Season Preview: Miller’s physicality has them ready to win

CORNING, OH (WOUB) – The Miller Falcons are excited to get their season underway, and head coach Dominic Scott has them in top form already.
“They’ll just hit all day long, and for our boys, I don’t know any other to coach. They do it, they buy into it,” Scott said.
The players have echoed that feeling, and they are ready to impose their physicality on their opponents and the rest of the conference. Senior offensive lineman Wyatt Porter attributed their summer of physical play to how they have improved this summer. Porter remarked, “We hit. Constantly. We are always being physical, we’re always working hard to make each other better, not focus on one person. We work on everybody so we can get it as smooth as we can get it.”
The Falcons had a breakthrough last year. Coach Scott and Miller had their first winning season in his four-year tenure. While the team was thrilled to have that success, they have higher aspirations.
They want to make history and to do that, the Falcons need their first playoff win.
Rest assured, Miller is well aware of the stakes this season and every person on the team had it on their mind.
“We’re going to put numbers on the banner up there. We’re gonna get the first playoff win in school history,” said senior quarterback Logan Doughty.
“We want to win the league, we want to win a playoff. That’s what we’re all hungry for, and I don’t think we’ll settle for anything less,” said junior wide receiver Nick Thompson.
“We want to go 10-0, and we want to be number one in our league. And, we want to win a playoff game if not more than one,” said Porter.
“The overall season expectation is to be the best team in Miller history for me. Win as many games as we can, 9-1, 10-0. Win that playoff game that’s so elusive to Miller, and just go down as the best team in Miller history,” said senior running back Zander Bice.
The biggest issue for the Falcons is closing out their opponents. Last season, Miller lost three of five games by ten or fewer points. They have not forgotten about their shortcomings from the past year and the games that slipped away in the final moments.
“We can’t become complacent after three quarters. Even if we’re winning a game, we have to finish that fourth quarter. We can’t take plays off,” said coach Scott.
This team has proven to be a tight-knit group, and they will weather whatever the season has in store for them. Throughout the course of the storm, the Falcons will be flying together.
“In the locker room, everybody loves each other. I wouldn’t want to be on any other team with anybody else. I love these guys day in and day out,” said Bice.
