Last year’s campaign opened up with the same game in which the Shermans nearly won 21 to 20.
Both teams had this game circled on their calendar. The Shermans would, however, put this hype to rest with a dominating performance.
Unioto started out hot as Tye Woods broke off a 55-yard rush to set the Shermans in the red zone. The Shermans went up a touchdown in the first two minutes. 7 to 0 Unioto
After some back-and-forth, Clayton Lester grabbed a crucial interception for Vinton County returning it to the 7-yard line. With the short field, Unioto’s defense completes the goal line stand as the Vikings come up empty handed after the turnover.
After regaining possession, Shermans quarterback Isaac Coy avenges the interception with a 90-yard touchdown pass to Caden Cutright to take a two-score lead.
After this play, all momentum swung the way of Unioto. Both sides of the ball made a massive statement. Vinton County’s very solid rushing attack was slowed down all night.
On offense, the Shermans were just as methodical with an effective passing night from Isaac Coy. With 3 passing touchdowns in the first half, the Sophomore puts himself on watch for one of the elite passers in the SVC.
The Shermans went into the half with a 31 to 0 lead.
Going into the second half, Vinton County started to get the rushing attack running and found the end zone to begin the fourth quarter. However, the systematic first half of Unioto was too much for the Vikings to overcome.
The Vikings fell to the Shermans 45 to 8 in a statement win for Unioto. Vinton County will try to get back on track next Friday when they play Circleville. As for Unioto, they will look to take the hype from this big win into their matchup next week at Amanda-Clearcreek.
