Logan Elm take down Circleville in annual “Backyard Brawl” showdown

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – The Logan Elm Braves and Circleville Tigers entered Friday’s game ready for war. The Braves took down the Tigers 35-17 in their annual “Backyard Brawl,” a fitting name for a battle between two Circleville teams.
The game started out with a good kick return by the Tigers out to the 40-yard line on a relatively short kickoff. They would be stifled by an early penalty which would lead to a fourth down where the Braves would set the tone for the day. Justin Marcum blocked a muffed punt, which he then returned, for a 44-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 Braves in the opening minutes.
The Tigers were not going to go away easily though. Logan Elm would not see their first offensive drive of the game until another turnover cost Circleville at least three more points. Braves’ Ne’Miah Waugh recovered a fumble at the Circleville 18-yard line. But when Logan Elm’s offense got on the field, they could not move the ball and only netted a yard on the attempted drive.
Circleville would get themselves on the board, snatching a field goal after a long drive to cut their deficit to 7-3. The final drive of the first quarter showed another Logan Elm touchdown, where Michael Bock took 13 yards to bring the score to 14-3 Braves at the end of a long drive and quarter.
The second would lean toward Circleville more than the first, ending with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Hudson Phalin to Kole Nungester, following an effective 3-minute drive, cutting the score to 14-10. The Braves’ third drive kept the same promise of the first two, but without a result. The Braves would have three passing chances at goal to go after marching down the field but would turn it over on downs at the two-yard line.
The Tigers would give it away again, with a three and out being the result of their next attempt. Logan Elm would orchestrate another drive, Aaron Walters methodically tossing the ball down the field to the three-yard line, where Michael Bock would walk it in to cap off the first with a lead of 21-10 for Logan Elm.
The final from this game featured Logan Elm rolling their early momentum into the second half, coming out on top of Circleville, 35-17.
Logan Elm looks to carry their momentum from this game into their contest against Fairfield Union (2-2) back at home next Friday.
Circleville looks to bounce back from this tough loss next week when they travel to play the Amanda-Clearcreek Aces (2-2).
