Ohio Dominates in home opener against Saint Louis
< < Back to ohio-dominates-in-home-opener-against-saint-louisATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – In their home opener the Ohio Bobcats took care of business with a commanding victory of 5-1 to beat the Saint Louis Billikens.
The action started quickly as Ohio had three penalty corners in just the first two minutes of play. But it was sophomore Natalie LaFleur who got the first goal of the game, her third of the season.
It did not take long for Saint Louis to respond; senior Josefina Perez got the penalty corner goal to tie it up 1-1.
The scoring did not stop there, three minutes later Ohio’s Anouk Plaehn got the goal to give the Bobcats the lead, she was assisted by Bodhi Littlefield and Emily Risser.
In the second period it was Saint Louis who dominated the possession. But the Ohio defense stepped up big allowing no goals the rest of the half. All four of the Billikens shots in the second quarter were denied by the Bobcat’s goalie Macy Lotze. Ohio kept the lead of 2-1 going into the half.
Coming out of the half the Bobcat offense caught fire. Senior Bodhi Littlefield got her first goal of the season and was assisted by Merle Kal. Just three minutes later senior Sasha Dikotla scores to expand the lead to 4-1.
In the fourth period Ohio was able to gain possession and move the ball around leading to senior Noa Desmaretz was able to capitalize for the fifth score of the game.
The Bobcats were able to hold their lead for the remainder of the game. It was yet another great defensive period for Ohio, as Macy Lotze picked up another three saves, her eight save of the game.
Ohio’s next matchup will be at home against Appalachian State on Sept. 20
