Grove City Christian Eagles soar to victory over Miller Falcons
< < Back to grove-city-christian-eagles-soar-to-victory-over-miller-falconsGROVE CITY, Ohio (WOUB)- The Grove City Christian Eagles would defeat the Miller Falcons in a defensive battle 26-0, improving their overall record to 5-1 and making them undefeated in conference play. This win would give the Eagles sole possession of first place in the MSL-Cardinal.
The Miller Falcons received the opening kickoff on their own 31-yard line. The Falcons showed their strong run game with five straight runs on their first drive. However, the Eagles revealed their equally strong defense forcing a punt.
The Eagles started their first drive of the game on their own 8-yard line with hopes to show off their dominant offense. They started off with a strong run game, courtesy of running back Cayden Carroll who plowed through Falcon defenders. Grove City’s drive would ultimately fall short and have to punt.
The Falcons hoped to get the second quarter off to an exciting start and put some points on the board. Running back Zander Bice burst through the Eagle defense scoring the first touchdown of the game, but it would be called back on a holding penalty. The following play the Falcons would fumble the ball and turn it over to Grove City.
The first quarter of this game was all run and ended without a single pass thrown from either team. The first pass of this game would come halfway through the second quarter from Eagle quarterback Doug Housley who connected with Josiah Harmeyer for a 19-yard touchdown. Grove City missed the extra point and took the lead 6-0.
With a tight game, Miller needed to find new ways to get their offense moving. They had already solidified their run game but had not thrown the ball. Doughty dropped back looking to make his first pass of the game and lobbed it into the hands of Eagle defender Landen Sams.
Grove City was gaining confidence after making big stop after big stop. Their offense started to click as they drove down the field in the final minutes of the half. Housley and Harmeyer connected again this time on a 14-yard touchdown, to give the Eagles a 13-0 lead.
The Grove City offense would come to life in the second half. Housley and Harmeyer would connect for another touchdown, but Cayden Carroll would lead the way rushing for 210- yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles would end the game earning their fifth shutout of the year winning 26-0. They look to continue their winning streak next week at Millersport. Miller hopes to bounce back at Fisher Catholic.
