RACINE, Ohio (WOUB) – The Trimble Tomcats (3-2) traveled to face the Southern Tornadoes (2-3) in a TVC-Hocking showdown. The Tomcats defeated the Tornadoes 35-13.

Both teams looked to avoid losing two games in a row coming into this game and the Tornadoes were seeking revenge after losing 59-19 to the Tomcats last year.

After stopping the Tornadoes on their opening drive, the Tomcats drove right down the field with a flurry of runs. They capped it off with an 11-yard touchdown run by QB Brady Jajczyk on 3rd and goal and a successful 2-point conversion to make it 8-0.

On Southern’s third drive of the game, the Trimble defense came up big with a turnover on downs at midfield. They would capitalize with their lethal rushing attack culminating in a one-yard rushing touchdown by RB Owen Sikorski. However, the 2-point conversion would be unsuccessful, keeping the score 14-0.

On Trimble’s next drive, Owen Sikorski kept on trucking as he drove the Tomcats down the field concluding in another one-yard touchdown from him. The 2-point conversion would be unsuccessful, setting the score 20-0.

However, during the 2-point conversion attempt, a costly unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Trimble would be assessed to the kickoff.

The Tornadoes wasted no time with their incredible starting field position with a touchdown pass from QB Nathan Shuster to WR Zach Thomas on the second play of the drive. This gave Southern life and made it a 20-7 game after the extra point.

Southern would get another shot at midfield seconds before the half but they couldn’t punch it in before the time expired, keeping it a 20-7 game at the half.

In the second half, any sort of momentum Southern had heading in evaporated as Trimble turned up their offense by scoring 15 points within the first seven minutes of the third quarter. Back-to-back rushing touchdowns gave Trimble a 35-7 lead.

The game would be out of reach from there on, as Southern would put up one more touchdown as they ultimately fell 35-13.

It was a combination of stonewall defense and electric rushing offense from Trimble to give them the win.

Trimble looks to keep the momentum going into next week when they face the Belpre Golden Eagles (1-4).

For Southern, they look to bounce back from dropping to 2-4 next week when they face the Waterford Wildcats (4-2).
