WATERFORD, Ohio (WOUB) – The Eastern Eagles made their way to Waterford to take on the Wildcats, and the Wildcats walked away with a 22-19 win.

The Eagles started off with the ball, sticking to the ground. Eastern was slowly pushing their way into Wildcat territory with Tyler Hill and Treyvon Bearhs, until turning over on downs after an incomplete pass.

Waterford started their drive until a holding call and interception from Eastern’s Gavan Murphy led to a turnover, giving the Eagles another shot. Eastern ran their way into Wildcat territory, ending the first quarter at Waterford’s 25-yard line.

Eastern jumped ahead early after quarterback Ethan Edwards handed it off to sophomore Treyvon Bearhs who punched it in to put the Eagles up 7-0. The Wildcats followed it up by staying grounded and pushing through the line, until Eastern forced a fumble and recovered it.

The Eagles recovered and pushed down the gridiron, passing it off to senior Tyler Hill who shuffled his way home for 6. The extra point attempt pushed right and was no good, putting the Eagles up 13-0.

The Wildcats took the ball back and marched down the field, unable to make progress until an offsides penalty on Eastern allowed a Waterford first down. The Wildcats capitalized on the first down and managed to end on the Eagles 7-yard line. Waterford quarterback Hayden Jones bobbed and weaved his way into the endzone to put the Wildcats on the board.

Eastern retaliated with a 55-yard rushing touchdown as Treyvon Bearhs squeaks in for his second touchdown of the night. Waterford held back the Eagles two-point attempt. Eagles up 19-7.

Starting their drive in the third quarter, the Wildcats’ Hayden Jones scrambles in for a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Waterford lined up for two and Hayden Jones punched it in again to end the third quarter 19-15. The Wildcats would ultimately defeat the Eagles 22-19.

The Waterford Wildcats host the Southern Tornadoes next week, while the Eastern Eagles travel to Wahama to face off against the White Falcons.
