Red Streaks spoil Bearcats undefeated start
< < Back toBAINBRIDGE, Ohio (WOUB) – The Piketon Red Streaks traveled to take on the Paint Valley Bearcats in a pivotal SVC battle with major conference standings implications.
Paint Valley came into this game undefeated and started the season 6-0 for the first time since 2018. The Bearcats offense is the focal point of their success, and they are having a historic season, averaging more than thirty points per game.
Paint Valley started the game slinging, and quarterback Preston Fauber connected with receiver Jeremy Cain for a seventy-five-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the game.
Paint Valley took the early 6-0 first-quarter lead, and it took some time before both teams found the endzone again. Piketon played excellent defense against a juggernaut Bearcat offense, and both defenses applied pressure all game and forced multiple turnovers and punts.
Piketon strung some great plays together toward the end of the second quarter, and running back Buddy Wilson took a screen pass down to the red zone to give the offense a spark. Red Streaks quarterback Luke Gullion took off and scored an 8-yard rushing touchdown on the ground to put Piketon up 7-6 at halftime.
Piketon picked up right where they left off, and Buddy Wilson raced to the endzone for a 69-yard rushing touchdown, putting the Red Streaks in the driver’s seat with a 13-6 lead over the Bearcats.
Paint Valley answered back with a Braylon Robertson rushing touchdown late in the third quarter, but Piketon’s defense shut them out in the fourth quarter and held on to their narrow lead.
Piketon defeated Paint Valley 13-12 and spoiled Paint Valley’s undefeated season with a much-needed conference win. Piketon will travel to take on Southeastern next week, looking to end their season on a hot streak.
Paint Valley will travel to take on Huntington, looking for a rebound before facing Unioto and Zane Trace to end the season.
