Eagles shut out Ironmen, advancing to region 11 semifinals
< < Back toCOLUMBUS, Ohio (WOUB) – The Jackson Ironmen traveled to Ohio Dominican University to take on the top-seeded Bishop-Watterson Eagles in a Division III, Region 11 second round playoff game. The Eagles dominated all three facets of the game, winning 34-0.
Both defenses started out strong, each forcing a three-and-out on their opening defensive drives.
The Eagles forced another punt, then drove the ball down the field. A five-yard rushing touchdown by Ben Uhlenhake gave Bishop-Watterson a 6-0 lead with 2:53 remaining in the opening quarter.
Another defensive stop quickly turned into points for the Eagles, as Zack Weber punched in a close-range rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 13-0 with 7:45 left in the second quarter.
The Eagle defense held strong yet again and Weber capped off another physical drive with another short-range rushing touchdown, putting the Eagles up 20-0 with a little over three minutes to go in the first half. The Ironmen drove down the field but were unable to get on the board before the half.
On the opening play of the second half, quarterback Drew Bellisari launched a missile down the field for Uhlenhake, who took it to the barn from 71 yards out. Just 15 seconds into the second half, Bishop-Watterson led 27-0.
The Eagles went back to the air on the next drive, with Bellisari finding Tommy Haley for a 67-yard touchdown pass to put Bishop-Watterson up 34-0.
Following Bellisari’s second passing touchdown, a running clock was implemented, and the Eagles cruised to victory.
Jackson’s season has come to a close, as they finished 9-3 and brought home the FAC title.
Bishop-Watterson remains undefeated with the 34-0 win and will look to keep it rolling next week against Licking Valley.
