Panthers Move to Regional Semis After Defeating Logan Elm

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio (WOUB) – The New Lexington Panthers (10-1) hosted their first ever 2nd home game of the playoffs in school history against the Logan Elm Braves (8-3).  

New Lexington had just come off a 38 – 10 win against the Crooksville Ceramics. The Braves beat the Philo Electrics 41 – 21.  

The Panthers will go on to the regional semifinal with a 52 – 14 win against the Braves.  

Both teams’ defenses came to play in the first quarter of the game. New Lexington went three-and-out on the first possession. Logan Elm did the same on their initial possession.   

Logan Elm’s Michael Bock ran the ball inside the Logan Elm’s red zone. Bock then earned an 11-yard rushing touchdown. The Braves were first on the board, 7 – 0 with 1:42 left in the first quarter.  

On the next possession, New Lexington’s Isaiah Stephan’s completed a 53-yard pass to Carson Kellogg for the touchdown. Stephens threw it to Bentley Hanson for a two-point conversion and the Panthers took the lead, 8 – 7, at the end of the first quarter.  

Second quarter the Panthers would make some impressive plays, Kellogg would get it inches from the line but would turn it over at Logan Elms 7-yard line. New Lexington didn’t let not let it go far, however, with Paul Stenson getting the safety and making the score 10 – 7.  

New Lex. took the scoring momentum even further with Stephens throwing it 41 yards to Bentley Hanson.  

Logan Elm tried to put some motion on the field but had to punt it back to the Panthers. Stephens connected with Kellogg for his second touchdown of the night.  

That gave New Lexington a 23 –7 advantage.  

Micheal Bock tried to make it through New Lexington’s offense – but nothing gave in.  

The Panthers possessed the ball once again and Stephens again found Hanson for his second touchdown. The half ended with New Lexington up 29-7.  

The final score ended in the Panthers’ favor, 52-17. New Lexington will head to the next round of the Region 15 playoffs and face Indian Valley in the semifinal.
