Wellston Golden Rockets hosted the Alexander Spartans for first conference game of the season
< < Back to heroesWellston, OH (WOUB) – The Wellston Golden Rockets played host to the Alexander Spartans Friday, winning by a score of 54-40.
The first quarter was a quarter of scoring runs, as it started with a 6-0 run for the Golden Rockets. Right after that, the Spartans went on a 9-0 scoring run to end the quarter with a score of 9-6 Spartans.
The second quarter was a back and forth affair. Both teams were trading buckets and trading leads throughout the period. This quarter happened to be a lot higher scoring, as it ended with Wellston leading 25-22.
Coming out of the half, Wellston started the quarter with a 11-0 run and played some great defense against the Spartans, causing multiple turnovers. This momentum would keep going, as they dropped 20 points in the quarter and would extend their lead to 45-30.
The fourth quarter started with scoring from the Spartans, but the Golden Rockets had an answer. Wellston would go on and keep the lead all the way to the end of the game in which ended with a final score of 54-40.
The Wellston Golden Rockets were led in scoring by Justin Jackson with a total of 19 points with an efficient 8-for-16 from the field and a 3-for-6 from three-point range. Also, Wes Briggs had a great game, who scored 16 points and dominated the paint.
Mason Morris had 15 points in the loss and led the Spartans in points. Klaxton Hawk also added 9 points to Alexander’s total, with 8 of them coming from in the paint.
After this loss, the Spartans will play host to the undefeated Vinton County Vikings on December 10th.
Following the strong win, the Wellston Golden Rockets will travel to Meigs, who is also unbeaten, on December 10th.
