BIDWELL, Ohio (WOUB) – The Vinton County Vikings (6-7; 5-1 TVC-Ohio) stayed in second in the TVC-Ohio with a victory against the River Valley Raiders (1-15; 0-6 TVC-Ohio), 77-64.

At the start of this game, it seemed as though everybody would be in for a shock as the Raiders quickly jumped out to a 10-2 lead spearheaded by Landon Burns. But the Vikings were quick to roar back, outscoring them 20-5 for the rest of the quarter and leading 22-15 at the end.

Both teams went back and forth in the second quarter trading scores left and right. A real bright spot for the Raiders was Braden Bennett as he started out 3/3 from deep. He ended as River Valley’s leading scorer with 28 points as the Raiders would trail by four in a close game at halftime, 39-35.

Things really started to click for Vinton County in the second half, their intensity and physicality increased and as a result, they forced many turnovers and disrupted the flow of River Valley’s offense. At the end of the third quarter, the Vikings started to pull away 56-44.

Vinton County sealed the game in the fourth as their persistent pressure and paint domination made this game too far for River Valley to reach. Two players in particular made all of the difference as Cobra Sharp and Hayden Reynolds might as well have been Batman and Robin because they were bucket machines in the second half and combined for a total of 51 points.

After the game, Vinton County Boys Head Coach NJ Kight was asked about his team’s dominant response to their poor start. “I think it threw him off balance, but I think it also energized us. I think it kinda got us going,” he said. “I don’t know if we were just lethargic, lackadaisical the way we came out, but once we started pressuring and doing that stuff, I thought it turned the tide”.
