WOUB News Reporter to moderate Grover Lecture Series poverty discussion
< < Back toATHENS, OH– WOUB News Report for America Corps Member Theo Peck-Suzuki is moderating a discussion about poverty in America as part of the Grover Lecture Series at Ohio University and Stuart’s Opera House on February 27. The lecture is called Why Poverty Exists in America and What We Can Do About It and will focus on a conversation with Matthew Desmond, Author of Poverty, By America.
Desmond is a New York Times Best Selling Author. He draws on history, research and original reporting to conclude that poverty persists in this nation because the rest of us benefit from it. Desmond calls on us to become poverty abolitionists, engaged in a politics of collective belonging to usher in a new age of shared prosperity.
“We think Theo will be a fantastic moderator,” said College of Health Sciences and Professions Executive Director of Community Relations and Engagement Rebecca Robison-Miller.
“We asked Theo to moderate due to his experience and extensive work on the WOUB Housing Squeeze series highlighting the poverty and related housing crisis affecting our county’s low-income population,” said Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio Senior Staff Attorney Peggy Lee.
The free and open to the public discussion will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in Walter Hall and then again from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Stuart’s Opera House. Those interested can also join the discussion virtually. Learn More at ohio.edu/chsp/grover-lecture
