Episode #5: Layers of Identity (Part 2)

Previously in episode 4 of The 3C Podcast, we journeyed to Lesotho with Rose Mathohonolofatso, who offered a powerful reflection on identity, culture, and belonging. She introduced us to the unique geography of her homeland, the meaning behind its flag and traditional attire, and shared what it means to navigate the world as a minority within a minority in a minority.

In this episode, we welcome Rose back for part two of her inspiring story. She reflects on what it means to stay connected across continents, cultures, and time zones. From late-night video calls with her family in Lesotho to growing okra and tomatoes in Ohio, Rose reminds us that home is not just a place but a presence we carry with us. This episode explores how cultural identity, kinship, and memory find new expression in everyday acts of resilience. This conversation speaks to how distance may reshape our connections but never erases the relationships that define us.

“The 3C Podcast” highlights the rich cultural narratives of our international students at Ohio University. As part of a larger storytelling initiative—Culture, Community, and Connection—launched by the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact, The 3C Podcast is an exploration into the diverse experiences and perspectives that shape our global community at Ohio University. Through conversations about language, music, food, dance, relationships, attire, and so much more, students share their stories of transition and discovery in a joyful and impactful manner. Each episode is designed to celebrate and empower international students by amplifying their voices and connecting them with broader audiences, offering listeners the opportunity to learn and leave inspired.

A tremendous thanks to Colin Cameron for creating our original musical score and to Jorge Castillo for editing this episode.
