ATHENS, OH (WOUB) — The frontman for Low Cut Connie promises their Nelsonville Music Festival set will leave you with your “hair messed up.”

Adam Weiner said he plans for his show to bring people together. “We’re gonna give them 110%,” he said.

Weiner said his shows are not ones you sit still at. “I get people to put their arms around each other. A lot of people find that awkward, but I want people to make a new friend at our shows,” he said.

“You participate, you dance, you laugh, you scream,” he said.

Low Cut Connie is a Philadelphia-based rock ’n’ roll band on tour following the release of their album “ART DEALERS. The band will take stage at the Nelsonville Music Festival Saturday, performing their recently released music as well as songs across their seven studio albums.

Weiner discussed the importance of incorporating his political beliefs into his music and platform. “It’s a relationship between me and the fans and the audience, it’s a conversation,” he said. “And if we’re going to have this conversation over many years, they’re going to learn about what I stand for, what my values are.”

Weiner said it is important to him because his fan base is made of people from many different backgrounds and identities.

Earlier this year, Weiner was asked to perform at the Kennedy Center as a part of its social action series. After the Trump administration restructured the center, Weiner, like many other artists, canceled his show.

“I want everybody to feel safe and included, and I didn’t feel like that was going to be the case at the show,” Weiner said.

He recently released a new song, “Livin’ in the USA,” which tells the stories of the people and communities he met throughout his time touring across America. “There’s a lot of people in this country currently who are feeling scared,” Weiner said. “They’re feeling tense, they’re worried about their status, they’re worried about their future and their future for their kids.”

“I wanted to capture in the song that feeling of fear that people are experiencing,” Weiner said. He compared the political climate to that of being a kid on halloween. Seeing people dressed in scary costumes, he wondered if they were “a good person or bad person.”

Weiner has had a chance to interact with people of all backgrounds touring through small towns to big cities and interacting with communities of all identities. “This country is a diverse mix of people and a lot of those people are under siege,” he said.

The Nelsonville Music Festival is Thursday through Sunday at Snow Fork Event Center with artists performing across three different stages. Low Cut Connie will play Snow Fork Stage at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Though it’s his first time playing Nelsonville, he has played various shows across the state and has had a good experience with Ohio audiences. “All the shows I’ve done in Ohio people are not afraid to have a good time,” Weiner said.

His goal when performing and creating music is to have a positive impact on the audience. “I hope that people leave feeling a little better than how they felt when they showed up,” Weiner said.
