NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – Nashville-based Styrofoam Winos brought their eclectic indie-rock sound, which fuses elements of classic rock, jam-band improv, and rootsy Americana in the Little Feat style, to their Sycamore Session, recorded on the Creekside Stage at the 2025 Nelsonville Music Festival on June 21. The session features six songs from Real Time, the band’s second full-length album, released last fall on Sophomore Lounge.
The trio — Lou Turner, Trevor Nikrant, and Joe Kenkel — open both the set and the album with Angel Flies Over, a warm, rambling tune nodding to the late folk icon Michael Hurley. Hurley’s music shaped the festival; he performed almost every year. He passed away at 83 in April, and this year’s festival closed with a sprawling, all-star Michael Hurley Tribute set.
The Winos’ session continues with Magic Mind, which delivers jangly indie-rock textures, seamlessly leading into Dial Tone, which builds from a low-key groove into a Pavement-esque jam. This playful energy flows into the upbeat Rollin’ With You, while Tree Is Brown adds psychedelic elements to their country-tinged sound, finishing with the raucous Don’t Mind Me.

All performances were filmed during the 2025 Nelsonville Music Festival, a production of Stuart’s Opera House.
