TVC-Hocking Standings: Southern and Federal Hocking boys lead conference play, four-way tie for first plagues the girls’ standings

TVC-Hocking Boys’ Standings
T1. Southern Tornadoes | 2-2 (Conf. 2-0)

The Southern Tornadoes are off to a strong start as they try to win their second straight TVC-Hocking title. Southern began the week by stomping Trimble 76-38. After that win, the Tornadoes had a closer 55-46 win against Waterford before falling to Portsmouth in the Battle in the 740 at Shawnee State University.
Southern can extend their conference lead further next week. The Tornadoes will play Belpre on Monday before playing second-place Federal Hocking on Thursday.
T1. Federal Hocking Lancers | 2-3 (Conf. 1-0)

The previous week, Federal Hocking only had one game: a date with the Belpre Golden Eagles on the road. Going into TVC-Hocking play, the Lancers only had one win to their name, with several hard-fought matches not going their way. Federal Hocking got back into the win column and started conference play with a victory, beating Belpre 42-33.
The Lancers bounce back with a defensive, slow-paced win over the Golden Eagles, with conference play heating up. This upcoming week will be critical for Federal Hocking as they travel to Reedsville on Monday to face off against the Eastern Eagles, then return home on Thursday to host the Southern Tornadoes.
3. Waterford Wildcats | 2-2 (Conf. 2-1)

The Waterford Wildcats split a pair of games last week. They opened the week on the road against Southern and fell 55-46 in a tough matchup. Gavin Hiener led Waterford with 22 points, while Finn Pennock added 14. The Wildcats responded at home on Friday night, defeating Trimble 51-46 in overtime. Finn Pennock paced Waterford with 17 points, and Reese Lang and Gavin Hiener each scored 10.
Waterford will continue its schedule this week with games against Monroe Central and Ironton. The Wildcats have two out-of-conference games on Tuesday and Friday. After wins at Eastern and against Trimble, they aresitting third in the conference.
4. Belpre Golden Eagles | 3-3 (Conf. 1-1)

The Belpre boys’ basketball team has had its fair share of ups and downs this season. This week, Belpre’s inconsistency continued. The Golden Eagles began conference play with a 55-52 win over a skidding Eastern squad, then lost 42-33 to Federal Hocking, who tied for last in the TVC-Hocking last season.
Belpre will start next week with a difficult test when they play defending TVC-Hocking champion Southern on Monday. The Golden Eagles will also host Trimble on Thursday.
5. Eastern Eagles | 2-5 (Conf. 1-2)

The Eastern Eagles continue to rebound with a win against Symmes Valley 62-34. This comes after a 70-54 win over conference opponent Trimble. Senior Colton Lloyd also reached 1,000 career points at Trimble. These two wins have helped dig the Eagles out of the hole they started the season in, going 0-5 through the first five.
Eastern starts next week with a conference game against Federal Hocking at home on Monday, then the Eagles host Vinton County on Wednesday. Eastern’s home stretch continues Saturday, when the Morgan Raiders come to Reedsville.
6. Trimble Tomcats | 1-4 (Conf. 0-3)

The Tomcats have been off to a rough start to begin their season, losing their first game to South Webster, 77-43. The boys bounced back in their next game, picking up their only win so far this year against Fairfield Christian Academy. They then followed that up with 3-straight in-conference losses to Southern, Eastern, and Waterford.
The Tomcats’ game against their rivals, the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes, is currently postponed and is awaiting rescheduling.
TVC-Hocking Girls’ Standings
T1. Eastern Eagles | 4-2 (Conf. 2-1)

After dropping the season opener to Alexander, the Eastern girls rattled off four straight wins. That included a 59-20 dominant victory over the defending state champion, Waterford. The Eagles also picked up another big conference win over Federal Hocking, defeating the Lancers 64-58.
They did drop their final game of the week to Belpre, losing 54-43. So far this season, Eastern has won every game when they score 50 or more points. While only six games into the season, the Eagles have already doubled their total wins from last season.
Eastern will have another busy week in front of them as they travel to Trimble on Tuesday. They will go out of conference when they face Fort Frye and will stay in Reedsville on Friday when they play Southern.
T1. Federal Hocking Lancers | 4-3 (Conf. 2-1)

This past week, the Federal Hocking Lancers had two conference games coming off their road win against Belpre to open their Hocking campaign 1-0. Their first game of the week was against Eastern, where they were defeated on their trip to Reedsville 64-58. They got back to their winning ways on Friday night when they hosted Southern. They beat the Tornadoes 70-50 in no small part to Takira Walker, Rorie Tabler, BrenleeCottrill, and Laura Blower, all scoring double-digits.
Their meeting with Bishop Hartley on Sunday has been postponed until a later date due to weather conditions meaning the Lancers will next play their conference rivals Trimble later in the week.
T1. Trimble Tomcats | 3-2 (Conf. 2-1)

The Trimble Tomcats girls have started off their season strong, posting a 3-2 overall record and a 2-1 in-conference record, with victories over the Southern Tornadoes and Belpre Golden Eagles.
The Lady Tomcats opened the season with a loss against Vinton County but would bounce back in a big way with a win over Southern 49-42. They kept the momentum going forward as they would pick up their first in-conference win of the season by beating Belpre 64-57. The streak came to an end the next week, as they lost to the Waterford Wildcats 56-40.
On Saturday, the girls picked up a huge win over their rivals, the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes, with a final score of 64-44.
Trimble looks to stay in the driver’s seat going forward, as they will host the Eastern Eagles on Tuesday.
T1. Waterford Wildcats | 2-2 (Conf. 2-1)

The Waterford Wildcats’ girls basketball team put together a strong week with three games on the schedule. Waterford opened play Sunday at home against Amanda-Clearcreek with a 36-29 win. The Wildcats then went on the road Tuesday and defeated Southern 38-22, led by Ava Hurley’s 20-point performance. Waterford capped the week Friday night with another road victory, cruising past Trimble 56-20.
Waterford will look to continue the momentum when they play Frontier and Martins Ferry next week.
5. Belpre Golden Eagles | 2-5 (Conf. 1-2)

Belpre opened their week by continuing their rough start to conference play with a loss to Trimble 64-57. However, the Golden Eagles had a breakthrough, knocking off Eastern 54-43. That game was a huge momentum shift for Belpre and Eastern. With the win, Belpre broke a 5-game losing streak, while the loss broke Eastern’s 4-game winning streak.
With momentum back on their side, Belpre can gain some ground in a TVC-Hocking race that could be close until the very end with wins next week. The Golden Eagles will visit Southern on Tuesday before playing a non-conference game against Alexander on Thursday.
6. Southern Tornadoes | 2-4 (Conf. 0-3)

Despite getting a few wins in their non-conference slate, Southern has struggled in TVC-Hocking play. The Tornadoes’ struggles continued this week with a 38-22 loss to Waterford and a 70-50 loss to Federal Hocking.
Southern will have a daunting stretch of three games in four days next week. The Tornadoes will start the week by hosting Belpre on Tuesday. Then, Southern will travel to Meigs on Wednesday before finishing their week with a road trip to Eastern on Friday.
