TVC-Ohio Boys’ Standings

T1. Meigs Marauders | 4-1 (Conf. 1-0)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

After a loss to Miami Trace to begin the season, the Marauders have bounced back and won four games in a row, including winning their first conference game over Wellston this week. The latest of their four wins came over Warren on Friday night, a team that gave them one of their two losses last season.

Marauders star senior Carson Davis led the team in scoring in both games this week, dropping more than 30 points in each game and scoring his 1,000thpoint against Wellston. Davis has also contributed more than 10 rebounds in every win this season. Guard Owen Tracy has also had a strong start to the season, scoring over double-digit points in every game and had a 23-point performance in a win over Eastern earlier in the year. Colbin Beucler has also made an impact alongside Tracy in the backcourt, scoring double-digits in every game but one this season. New starters Griffin Hudson and Gunner Cleland have stepped up in the starting five for Coach Davis’ squad early in the season.

The reigning TVC-Ohio champs have two conference games upcoming this week, hosting Alexander on Monday and traveling to Nelsonville-York on Thursday. They will also take on Padua Franciscan on Saturday in a neutral-site non-conference matchup.

T1. Vinton County Vikings | 3-1 (Conf. 2-0)

Written by: Ella Hughes

After starting the season 1-1, with a win against Southeastern and loss to Fairfield Union, the Vikings have won their past two conference games. Their first conference win came against Athens 67-56, a team that they beat twice last season. Their most recent conference win was Thursday night against Alexander 74-65, a second team they were undefeated against last season.

With key departures in the offseason, like leading scorer Cobra Sharp, Vinton County will look to senior Nash Yates and junior Josh Montgomery to play bigger roles this season on offense. NJ Kight, Viking head coach, is focusing on defense and communication to help his young team win games and stay ahead in the standings. The Vikings will continue conference play this week Monday against Nelsonville-York and Wednesday against Eastern. Vinton County hopes to continue their hot streak and remain undefeated in conference play.

T3. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 2-1 (Conf. 1-1)

Written by: Sam Nolan

A late start combined with postponing Saturday night’s game against Trimble has found the Buckeyes with just three games played so far. In those three, they picked up wins over Federal Hocking and River Valley, while dropping one game to Alexander. Star junior Cam Sullivan has had an impressive start, averaging about 21 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. A Transfer from Athens, Weston Wheatley has made an impact off the bench as well, scoring 8.5 points per game.

The Buckeyes have a full schedule ahead of them, and this week could be a strong indicator on how the Ohio shakes out for the rest of the season. The boys take on TVC-Ohio leaders Vinton County on Monday, with a quick turnaround to second-place Meigs on Thursday night. Both should be tight matchups and are crucial to Nelsonville-York’s success long term.

T3. Wellston Golden Rockets | 3-1 (Conf. 1-1)

Written by: Andrew Woods

Wellston has quietly had one of the best starts to the season in the TVC. The Golden Rockets continued their hot start by defeating River Valley in their conference opener 67-54 before falling to defending TVC-Ohio champion Meigs 78-42. Despite the loss to the Marauders, Wellston’s win over River Valley secured the Golden Rockets their best start since the 2020–2021 season.

Wellston will have a busy week as they look to continue their strong start to the season. The Golden Rockets will begin their busy stretch against Athens on Tuesday. Then, Wellston will play two games in two days, visiting Alexander on Thursday and hosting Clay on Friday.

T3. Alexander Spartans | 1-5 (Conf. 1-1)

Written by: Joshua Jacob

The Spartans started their season roughly, with three losses in a row. With a young team and a second-year head coach, this might be exactly whereAlexander wants to be. Their first two games were against non-conference opponents, keeping both of them close. Their first in-conference game was against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes, and they took that game 65-55. After that game, they picked up their first in-conference loss against Vinton County74-65.

The Spartans will test their endurance with three games next week, with their first being an away in-conference matchup against Meigs on Monday. Next, they will return home to take on Wellston on Thursday for another in-conference game. Both teams are strong conference opponents, and wins could help Alexander get a substantial boost in the standings. They finish out the week playing Crooksville on Saturday.

T6. Athens Bulldogs | 1-3 (Conf. 0-1)

Written by:  Luke Schmitt

Athens opened TVC-Ohio conference play at home with a hard-fought 67-56 loss against the Vinton County Vikings. The Bulldogs kept the game close thanks to strong showings from sophomores Collin Chapman and Wren Ballew, and senior Zach Mullins. Athens took the lead with five minutes in the fourth quarter, but their defense couldn’t stop Vinton County’s three-point barrage, which ultimately sealed the game.

The boys were scheduled to travel up to take on the Logan Chieftains, but due to inclement weather, the game was suspended and rescheduled for February 10 at 7:30 p.m. Barring any further cancellations, Athens will play at Wellston (3-1) on Monday.

T6. River Valley Raiders | 2-3 (Conf. 0-2)

Written by: Andrew Woods

After a 2-1 record to start the season, River Valley struggled as soon as TVC-Ohio play began. The Raiders lost to a surging Wellston squad 67-54, then lost to Nelsonville-York 62-47.

River Valley has only one game next week. The Raiders will visit Athens on Thursday.

TVC-Ohio Girls’ Standings

1.Athens Bulldogs | 4-2 (Conf. 2-0)

Written by: Luke Schmitt

The Athens Lady Bulldogs tacked on two conference wins this week against the Alexander Lady Spartans and River Valley Raiders. Athens opened the stretch with a 62-42 victory over River Valley, powered by a dominant 30-point performance from Lex Koopal.

The momentum carried into a matchup with previously undefeated Alexander, where the Lady Bulldogs handed the Spartans their first loss of the season. Koopal led the team in scoring again, recording a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, helping Athens lead in all four quarters. All five starters finished with seven or more points en route to a 51-41 win. The two teams will meet again on January 22 at Alexander.

The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to face Logan on Saturday, but the game was rescheduled to Jan. 3 at noon.

T2. Alexander Spartans | 4-2 (Conf. 2-1)

Written by: Katie Bailey

The Alexander Lady Spartans are currently ranked second in the TVC-Ohio conference. Alexander is just a game short of being tied for first with Athens. The Spartans lost to the Bulldogs on Friday, 51-41. This loss moves Alexander to a conference record of 2-1.

The Spartans will face the River Valley Raiders for another TVC-Ohio matchup on Tuesday looking to improve their conference record. Then, the girls will travel to Belpre on Friday hoping to add another win to their resume.

T2. River Valley Raiders | 4-3 (Conf. 2-1)

Written by: Andrew Woods

The River Valley Raiders are another team that has struggled to find consistency this season. Their inconsistency continued this week. After losing 64-42 to Athens, the Raiders turned around and beat Meigs 64-29.

Although River Valley lost to Athens, the news from that game was not all bad for the Raiders. During the game, junior guard Hayley Edwards scored her 1,000th career point.

River Valley will look to gain some momentum and consistency next week. The Raiders will visit Alexander on Tuesday before hosting the currently winless Wellston on Friday.

4.Vinton County Vikings | 4-2 (Conf. 1-1)

Written by: Ella Hughes

The Vinton County Lady Vikings started their season on a roll going 3-0 before losing their first game of the season to Waverly, 59-38. Senior forward Kylee Smith returns from injury after missing a big chunk of last year and will be a key part of the team’s success. In their past three games, the Lady Vikes have gone 1-2 with their most recent win coming in-conference against Nelsonville-York.

With a similar start to last season, it will be important for Vinton County to find ways to win against conference opponents. Their keys to success are strong defense and making baskets. This week the Lady Vikes take on two conference opponents. Tuesday at home against the strong Athens Bulldogs and Friday at Meigs against a Marauders team with new coaching.

T5. Meigs Marauders | 1-5 (Conf. 1-2)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

Despite what their record might say, Meigs has improved tremendously from last season under new head coach Mark Griffin. The team got their first conference win after nearly two years taking down Wellston 59-28 on Dec. 4. The Lady Marauders outscored the Lady Golden Rockets 29-6 in the second quarter of that game, a big reason the team was able to take home the win.

Outside of the win, Meigs lost a close game to Berne Union earlier in the season. The Lady Marauders lost to Nelsonville-York by 36 and 37 points last season but only lost to the Lady Buckeyes by 14 in the team’s most recent conference game on Tuesday.

This upcoming week for the team is certainly a busy one. The team will take on Marietta and Southern on Tuesday and Wednesday, before capping off the week at home against Vinton County on Friday night.

T5. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 2-3 (Conf. 1-2)

Written by: Sam Nolan

The Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes have had a solid start to their 2025-26 campaign. A 39-35 win over the same Huntington team they struggled against last season was followed by a couple of close losses to Belpre and River Valley. The game against Meigs last week grants them their first conference win, putting them right above Wellston. However, Vinton County and Trimble bested the Lady Buckeyes in their last two games.

They now look to play Wellston on Tuesday, followed by Athens on Friday. Both games provide opportunities for Nelsonville-York to boost their conference resume for the future.

7. Wellston Golden Rockets | 0-8 (Conf. 0-2)

Written by: Andrew Woods

The Wellston Golden Rockets continued their rough start to the season by losing to Alexander 47-17. That loss extends Wellston’s losing streak, which began last season, to 13 games.

Next week, Wellston will try to grab their first win of the season against Nelsonville-York on Tuesday or at River Valley on Friday.
