ALBANY, Ohio (WOUB) — The Vinton County Vikings were feeling good after winning against Athens earlier this week. Now they are on the road to take on the Alexander Spartans. It wasn’t all easy for the Vikings, but they found a way to get a much-needed win against the Spartans.

This game would be back and forth to start as both teams would continue to trade baskets throughout the first quarter. To end the quarter, Sophomore Jace Cooper had a beautiful drive to the basket for the Spartans, but yet Vinton County still led 14-12 after eight minutes.

Vinton County was able to go ahead big by having a dominant second quarter. The Vikings ended up forcing multiple Alexander turnovers and would knock down a lot of shots on offense. Freshman Briggs Prater of Vinton County led all scorers at the half with 14 points, giving the Vikings a 33-16 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Alexander Spartans would come out with more energy and would start playing better. Vinton County would struggle to make shots, and the Spartans would take advantage of that, slowly starting to crawl back.

Alexander would continue slowly coming back, and the Vikings’ lead would be cut down to six with just over two minutes left in the game. The Vikings would not quit in the last few minutes by making big free throws and making key defensive stops. Vinton County would go on to defeat Alexander by a final score of 52-41.

Junior Josh Montgomery would lead the Vikings in scoring with 19 points while Jace Cooper would lead the Spartans with 15 points. Vinton County would improve to a record of 6-7 while Alexander would fall to a record of 3-11.

Vinton County will look to extend their win streak against New Hope Christian in their next game while Alexander will look to bounce back against Southeastern.
