Excursions: Jazz Motifs w/ Dr. Art Cromwell: Black History Month Centenary:[Constantly Becoming] – 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
1926 was the year Carter G. Woodson initiated the first national recognition of “Negro History Week.” During the U.S. Bicentennial (1976) Congress passed and the President signed a proclamation officially recognizing Black History Month. This year is our country’s 250th anniversary. We celebrate the Centennial of Black History Month. 1926 also saw the recording of several of Jazz’s landmarks, in addition there is a virtual “roll-call” of significant Jazz artist who share 1926 as their birth year.
Sat. Feb. 7 from 6-9:00 p.m. EST Excursions will present “Black History Month Centenary:[Constantly Becoming],” the first of a two-part recognition of Black History Month’s Centennial, and music’s contribution, as part of Radio Free Athens, on WOUB Ohio University Pubic Radio.
