A red-hot Jackson takes out the Lady Marauders in their eighth straight loss

POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) – The Meigs Lady Marauders took on the hot Jackson Ironladies looking to extend their win streak to four. Jackson’s dominance on rebounds and at the free throw line would carry them to a 47-31 victory.
The Ironladies were strong with the ball early, seemingly unable to give it up. Several trips to the free throw line and offensive possessions led by junior Lillian Mapes gave Jackson a strong advantage early in the first.
Fouls and offensive mistakes would slow down the Ironladies, allowing the Lady Marauders to collect several points off free throws and get the team on the board. Jackson had already gained too much of a lead, however, and would walk out of the first quarter with a 21-7 lead.
The story was similar in the second, Jackson put up comfortable offensive possessions early to extend their lead all the way up to 22. Jackson’s defense was dominant, especially during Meigs’ nearly minute long offensive possession that only allowed one shot on the net, an airball.
Jackson would be slowed down again by a new Meigs defense led off the bench by Kolsyn “Cookie” Jenkins and with the first three of the game for the Marauders by Alie Hysell, the lead had been cut down to 17 at the half. The Ironladies would lead 29-12 at the half with 11 points from Mapes.
Defenses for both sides showed out throughout the third. Early three pointers for both teams would be almost all the points to witness in the third.
Jenkins would continue to be a defensive strong suit for the Lady Marauders, racking up six rebounds and a steal by the end of the third. Even so, Jackson was able to extend their lead to 20, up 38-18 at the third whistle.
Threes would rain down in the early part of the fourth quarter, each team recording two of their own. Meigs freshman Ella Vaughn would find her second three of the game and would lead her team in points.
The Lady Marauders were able to find a groove on offense and cut down the lead, but the gap would be too much to overcome, and they would fall to Jackson with a final score of 47-31. Mapes led Jackson with 12 points, and Vaughn led the Lady Marauders with 16.
Meigs falls to 2-19 and will face Eastern on Thursday. Jackson rises to 8-13 with their fourth win in a row and plays Hillsboro next, also on Thursday.
