OhioHealth announced Tuesday morning that a letter of intent has been signed to purchase an area located northeast of the intersection of West Washington Street and John Lloyd Evans Memorial Drive — land currently owned by Ronnie and Karen Wend. The site would be home to the new Nelsonville urgent care center.
“This will be a very good location for the health center with convenient access both from the freeway and from town,” said Cheryl Herbert, senior vice president of Regional Operations for OhioHealth in a news release. “We think it will serve the community well for many years to come.”
OhioHealth’s Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville lost its status as a hospital last year as the healthcare organization moves to close the facility and open the urgent care instead. The entity is now called OhioHealth Nelsonville Medical and Emergency Services.
The new urgent care facility is expected to open sometime in late 2016. Final plans are not complete by services expected to be included are imaging, lab, physician offices and the overall urgent care facility.
