Senior catcher Lauren Gellerman’s two-home-run performance led Ohio to a 5-1 victory over MAC opponent Bowling Green on Saturday at Meserve Field, improving the Bobcats’ record on the season to 19-13.

Gellerman hit a solo home run in the first inning, and then added a two-run blast for insurance in the seventh inning to put the score at 5-1. Gellerman’s second home run was her 14th of the season, putting her one behind teammate Caitlin Colvin, who holds the program record for home runs in one season with 15 so far in 2013.

With Gellerman’s two blasts, Ohio Softball has set a new single season program record for home runs (48).

Bowling Green pitcher Jamie Kertes bounced back from allowing a home run on the second batter she faced on the day to record five strikeouts.

Kertes was replaced after four innings by Paris Imholz, who was on the mound for Gellerman’s second home run and three earned runs.

Starting pitcher Lauren McClary earned the win for the Bobcats in the contest, allowing two hits and one earned run with four strikeouts in five full innings.

Savannah Jo Dorsey pitched two scoreless innings and struck out all three batters she faced in the bottom of the seventh to end the game and earn her first career save.

Ohio successfully stole bases twice, when Alexia Cortez and Alyssa Wolfe both stole second while pinch running in the fourth inning.

Cortez would eventually be hit home on an RBI single by third baseman Alexandria Basquez to make the score 2-0.

Bowling Green’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth, when an RBI single by centerfielder Katie Yoho brought home Paige Berger to make the score 2-1. During that inning, Berger and Yoho became the only Falcons to record a hit all game.

Ohio also scored in the top of the sixth inning when Tessa Bailey doubled to right field to bring home Dakota Pyles, who had been pinch running for Adrienne Gebele.

The loss drops Bowling Green’s record to 17-12. Ohio faces the Falcons a second time tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Meserve Field.
