Acclaimed Fantasy Author To Speak At Ratha Con 2013
< < Back to acclaimed-fantasy-author-speak-ratha-con-2013The author of an acclaimed fantasy series about vampires in King Arthur’s court will be one of the keynote speakers at the second annual Ratha Con convention in Athens.
The comic and science fiction fantasy convention will be held at the Athens Community Center on Saturday May 11.
Joanne Padgett, the author of the series “Vampires of Camelot”, will speak from 2 to 4 p.m.
Padgett is known for her expressive and thought provoking style, and her many cliff hangers often leave her readers guessing throughout the book.
Padgett, who’s sold 75,000 copies of her first book, didn’t even believe that she could write a novel, let alone a series
“Yes, I am surprised, because I never thought it would ever happen. I never thought I could even write a novel to be honest with you. I was a speech writer for some senators here in Nashville and I got to the point where I couldn’t look myself in the mirror for what I was writing so I needed to make a change.”
She got the idea of her series simply from watching a movie.
“At the time I was watching Knights of the Roundtable on Turner Classic Movie Channel which is one of my favorite movies and I thought I’ve always loved Camelot and I’ve always loved vampires so why not put vampires in Camelot and that’s where the idea came from.”
Padgett will sign copies of her second book of the five part series at the convention, along with giving young, aspiring writers different tips.
“I’m actually going to be doing a panel about self publishing in the digital age and what it means to be a self published author.”
The Ratha Con convention will be start at 10 a.m.
Tickets are $5. Kids 11 and under are free.
