Buckeyes Crush Chieftains
< < Back to buckeyes-scalp-chieftainsIt’s been nine years since Nelsonville-York and Logan last met on the field. The Chieftains might wish it had been a little bit longer, as the Buckeyes continued to roll through their schedule in a 42-6 win.
The Nelsonville offense capitalized on their first possession of the game, driving 43-yards, capped off by an Austin North 7-yard touchdown scamper. From there, the Bucks never looked back.
After the Buckeye defense stopped Logan on 4th down, the Buckeyes speed took effect as Austin North dashed for 39-yards and six points.
It was obvious that the suspension of Logan quarterback Kelly Long was affecting the Chieftains offense, as the Bucks defense gave themselves a huge assist, forcing a fumble that set up a 40-yard touchdown pass on the very next play to put Nelsonville up by 19.
Dustin Young continued his candidacy for “Player of the Year” as he broke off a 40-yard sprint towards paydirt. The ensuing extra point was good, and the Buckeyes took a 26-0 lead. Young ended with 171 yards on 24 carries.
Following a Logan punt, Nelsonville’s scoring continued as the Buckeyes kicked a field goal to put 29 points in between themselves and Logan heading into the half.
Nathan Dean finished the game passing for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns on 14 attempts.
For Logan, Jack Music, who started the first half in place of the suspended Long, passed for 13-yards and one interception. Cory McCarty carried 21 times for 101 yards and the Chieftains lone score.
