Man Arrested In Hit-And-Run
< < Back to man-arrested-hit-and-runA 15-year-old male was seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking along Era Road on the western edge of the county near Mt. Sterling, according to Robert Radcliff, Pickaway County Sheriff.
The juvenile, whose name has not yet been released, was transported by Mt. Sterling medics to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for treatment after being struck about 8:12 p.m. Thursday, according to Deputy Jake Sowers.
A 17-year-old male companion also was injured in the accident, but he was treated and released at the scene, Sowers said.
Jack Tirey, 59, of Grove City, is being held in the Pickaway County jail facing charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving under the influence and aggravated vehicular assault, Sowers said. Additional charges may be pending.
Sowers said an off-duty Columbus Police officer helped nab the suspect after witnessing the crash and following the vehicle into Madison County as it left the scene. Tirey reportedly came to a stop on his own and was apprehended by Madison County Sheriff’s deputies when they arrived on the scene.
The incident remains under investigation, and more details will be published as they become available.
