Tettleton, Blankenship Among Five Named Football Captains
< < Back to tettleton-blankenship-among-five-named-football-captainsOhio Assistant Athletic Director for Football Operations Jason Grooms announced via his Twitter account Sunday night that Seniors Tyler Tettleton, Beau Blankenship, Donte Foster, Keith Moore, and Travis Carrie were named as the team captains for the 2013 season. Both Carrie and Tettleton served as team captains in 2012 as well.
Tettleton, a redshirt-senior from Norman, Okla., has made his case to be remembered as one of the best, if not the best, quarterback to play at Ohio University. Tettleton already holds school records for career touchdowns (44), passing yards (5,943), and total offense (6, 787 yards). He also became the first QB in school history to throw for at least 2,500 yards in consecutive seasons at Ohio.
Blankenship, a redshirt senior from Norman, Okla., set a school record with 1,604 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns in 2012, breaking Kalvin McRae’s record of 1,434 yards set back in 2007. Blankenship also rushed for over 100 yards in eight of Ohio’s 12 games in 2012, including a career-high of 269 yards against Massachusetts on September 29.
Foster, a redshirt-senior from Guthrie, Okla., led the team in receiving in 2012. He finished the season with 59 catches for 659 yards and eight touchdowns. Foster had a career night in 2012 against Eastern Michigan, where he amassed 164 yards receiving and two touchdowns, including a career-long of 79 yards.
Moore, a redshirt-senior from Grove City, Ohio, became Ohio’s starting middle linebacker in 2012 after the graduation of former All-MAC player Noah Keller. Moore, a former walk-on, led the team in tackles with 98, and was also second on the team with two interceptions. Moore was one of the 50 nominees for the Burlsworth Trophy in 2012, which is awarded to the most outstanding player in the country who began their career as a walk-on.
Carrie, a sixth-year senior from Antioch, Calif., was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA after missing all of the 2012 season with a shoulder injury. Before the injury, Carrie was named to the Thorpe Award watch list, awarded to the top defensive back in the country. In 2011, Carrie was named Second Team All-MAC at cornerback.
The Ohio Bobcats begin the 2013 season on Sunday, September 1, as they take on the Louisville Cardinals on ESPN.
