Dangerously High Temperatures Again Today
< < Back to dangerously-high-temperatures-again-todayFor the third straight day the National Weather Service has issued a heat advistory cautioning area residents to stay cool.
The special weather statement said temperatures are expected in the 90s but the humidity and other factors will create heat index values around 100 degrees in Athens and surrounding counties.
Some counties to the north are expected to see such values around 102 degrees.
The temperatures could make it dangerous to perform outdoor activities, especially during the afternoon.
The heat could also be dangerous for those without air conditioning.
The NWS has some tips for staying safe for those in the affected areas:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in the air conditioning
- Stay out of the sun
- Check on relatives and neighbors
- Reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to the morning or evening
- Wear light and loose fitting clothing
- Schedule frequent breaks when working outside
- Know the signs of heat stroke
- Move heat stroke victims to cool and shaded locations
- Call 9-1-1 if experiencing symptoms of heat stroke
