Ohio Baseball Walks Off to 8-7 Win
< < Back to ohio-baseball-walks-off-to-8-7-winOhio baseball trailed the Bowling Green Falcons 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, but the Bobcats put together a comeback capped off by a walk-off single from Jake Madsen to push the Green and White to an 8-7 victory on Saturday.
With runners on first and second and the game tied at 7-7 in the final frame, Mitch Longo stepped up and hit one over a diving centerfielder, but confused base running left all the ducks on the pond for Madsen.
Bowling Green started the scoring in the first inning on a fielder’s choice, and then extended the lead in the third after a two-run single.
Ohio’s first answer came courtesy of a Longo two-run homer over the right field wall. Longo added two more runs in the following inning during a three-run fourth. Manny Dejesus also knocked in one to put the ‘Cats up at 5-3.
Longo finished 5 for 6 with four RBIs. Dejesus also contributed two RBIs.
The Falcons put up four more courtesy of some small ball. A suicide squeeze play in the eighth extended their lead to 7-5.
Dejesus got the ‘Cats back on the board in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to set up the walk off.
Logan Cozart came into the game during the seventh and continued his hot pitching streak. His only earned run came in the light of some sloppy defensive play behind him. He shut down the batters in the eighth and ninth en route to his fourth win of the season.
The Bobcats’ rubber game against the Falcons is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
