Auditor Looks to Call Out Spending Abuse by Public Officials

Auditor Dave Yost announced his new plan at a news conference Monday.
He says that starting July 1, his office will start including findings of abuse in audits in an effort to put a spotlight on problematic spending. While the designation could bring scrutiny, it won’t require money to be repaid.
Yost used the case of a board of education giving a former superintendent more than $170,000 to pay off his college loans as an example of abuse and questionable spending.
Yost says the abuse designation will hopefully serve as a deterrent to unjustified spending.
