Officials at Ohio's largest military base are bracing for more potential spending cuts for a major Air Force command based there.

The Dayton Daily News reports a Pentagon directive to reduce spending at management headquarters could affect the Air Force Materiel Command offices at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.

The directive from the secretary of defense calls for the 20 percent cut over five years. Details aren't yet known.

The reduction applies to budget money, but a memo from a deputy secretary of defense indicates staff also may be affected. About 900 civilians and 400 military personnel are assigned to the Air Force Materiel Command headquarters.

Meanwhile, employees at Wright-Patterson are trying to catch up on the backlog of work created by furloughs of thousands of civilian workers.
