Rio Drops Opener In Straight Sets
< < Back to rio-drops-opener-straight-setsThe Rio Grande RedStorm volleyball team opened up the season with a straight sets loss at home to the Northwestern Ohio Racers 25-18, 25-20, 25-21.
“For the first game of the season, we are further along than I thought we would be,” head coach Billina Donaldson said.
The RedStorm played well for the first 18 points of each set but fell apart giving up rallies late in each set. Donaldson said they made adjustments a little too late but was happy with the game as a whole.
Despite the loss, some of the new faces played an excellent game.
Freshman Chandler Brown had 10 digs and coach Donaldson was happy with her performance.
“We got a huge game out of Chandler Brown and she was everywhere tonight,” said Donaldson.
Looking ahead to the next game Donaldson said they need to work on their transition from offense to defense. She went on to say that if they transition better that it will make a difference.
Rio Grande will look to get back on track when they play their next game on Tuesday, Sept. 3, when they host the Shawnee State Bears at 7 p.m.
