Athens Auditor Honored By State
< < Back to athens-auditor-honored-stateAthens City Council recognized city auditor Kathy Hecht Monday night for receiving the "Auditor of State Award."
The distinction goes to auditors in Ohio who get a "clean audit report."
Hecht says the books had quite a few issues when she came into office, but that's not the case anymore.
"Every year I've worked very hard to improve those processes, which involves me working with all departments throughout the city, especially departments that take money," she says.
Auditor of State Dave Yost sent her a letter and certificate because her office's "financial audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or any questioned costs."
She says it's her eighth year in office, and it's the first time she's gotten the award.
"I'm sure there are quite a few entities throughout the state that got this," Hecht says. "However, it is hard not to get (dinged — and therefore disqualified — for something)."
