Former Sheriff Seeks Stay in Civil Case Filed by County

Former Athens County sheriff Patrick Kelly is asking that a civil lawsuit filed against him by Athens County be put on hold until the appeal of his criminal conviction is resolved.
Kelly was found guilty Feb. 12 in Athens County Common Pleas Court of 17 felonies and one misdemeanor, including 12 felony counts of theft in office. He was later sentenced to seven years in prison and is currently in Allen Correctional Institution.
